Real Player Download Red Alert
If you are trying for a Real Player download, or know someone that does you need to read this information. It talks about what computer security surprises and issues you may want to consider before a Real Player download and what are your alternatives for better streaming video players.
If you are looking for a Real Player download, be wary. If you've never used the Real One Player program before or installed it on your computer, you're in for an unpleasant surprise. While Real One Player is indeed a good video player, you basically have to sign away ownership of your computer to get it.
There are a lot of much better streaming video players out there to look for before going through with a Real Player download. For instance, even the Windows Media Player is a pretty decent program. It does have all the bells and whistles that Real One Player may have, but it gets the job done. I actually kind of prefer its simpler layout over the busier Real One Player.
The main reason to avoid a Real Player download is that it's going to take over your computer. The Real One Player program itself installs a bunch of little programs that run in the background, slow things down, and generally annoy the heck out of you. You'll notice this immediately after you install the program; several large and obnoxious windows will pop up with a whole bunch of ads and announcements from the Real One Player people. Every time you boot up your computer you'll be greeted by a similar array of annoying Real One Player windows.
Another more sinister reason to avoid a Real Player download is they are often laced with all sorts of other programs you really don't want on your computer. While I don't really have proof of it, the last time I used a Real Player download I had a serious spyware problem for several days afterwards; I highly suspect it was the Real Player download that introduced them to my computer. Of course, I doubt the people that made the Real One Player were to blame for it; you just have to be wary of where you find your Real Player download. If you absolutely must have the program, get it from a trusted source.
Anyway, just be on your guard and think it through before using a Real Player download. It may be loaded with spyware, and even if it isn't it's a fairly obnoxious program that's going to basically take over your computer. Give Windows Media player a shot first, or even Quicktime is better in my opinion. I've been using both of those for years now and they always are able to do everything I need them to. Why put up with the annoying pop windows all the time?
